Dr. Alemany graduated in Biology from the University of Barcelona in 1968, where, in 1972, he obtained his doctorate in Sciences (Biology) . From 1973 to 1974, he was a research fellow at the Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis, MO, where he worked on inter-organ amino acid metabolism. In 1974 he was appointed Assistant Professor of General Physiology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Barcelona, where he continued his studies on perinatal amino acid metabolism. In 1977 he became Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the Balearic Islands University in Majorca, and obtained full professorship in 1981. In 1982 he joined the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Barcelona, in Tarragona, as Professor of Biochemistry. Four years later, in 1986, he was appointed Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Biology of the same university in Barcelona, where he held the position of Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Physiology for nine years. Since 2001 he has held the post of Professor of Nutrition and Food Science in the same faculty.
